ORP Gives Marks Another Shot at Short Track Success

07/21/2008 — #9 Justin Marks, Crocs Tundra Coming off strong top-five run at Kentucky Speedway cut short by crash Marks says lessons learned from teammate Todd Bodine at Motor Mile will help at ORP Mooresville, NC (07-21-2008) – Crocs Tundra driver Justin Marks raced in sports cars as a factory driver before joining the stock car ranks. He prepped for his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career in ARCA’s RE/MAX and Lincoln Welders Truck Series. Some of his best performances there were on short tracks, including top five finishes at Winchester, Springfield and an ALWTS win at Toledo. Marks and his crew are anxious to rack up finishes like that in the no. 9 Crocs Tundra. Heading into O’Reilly Raceway Park, the young driver from Rocklin, CA, carries confidence. “Heading into this race at O’Reilly Raceway Park, my confidence as a driver is up right now. After the testing session we completed at Motor Mile, and after how our team worked so well together at Kentucky, I feel very good about going into our next short track race,” said Marks. Testing at Motor Mile with teammate Todd Bodine and utilizing a data acquisition system, Marks learned a lot about racing his Crocs Tundra on all types of oval tracks. “I’m approaching driving the Crocs Tundra a little bit more differently than I have in the past. As a road racer, I come out of a discipline that’s very different and it has taken some time to adjust. I feel like I’m beginning to understand the technique you have to have to drive these trucks and I’m looking forward to putting everything to the test at O’Reilly Raceway Park on Friday night,” said Marks. Marks was grateful for the opportunity to learn more about Tundra racing with his Germain Racing crew. “The Motor Mile test before Kentucky was the first time I’ve had someone sit down and look at my data and my line and my technique and say ‘you’re doing it wrong and this is how you need to do it.’ I had an opportunity to open my eyes to short track racing and I am anxious to take another shot at it. I’ve never been to O’Reilly Raceway Park. Todd tells me I’ve never been on a race track that’s anything like ORP. It should be a good place for me to take the next step in developing as a short track driver,” said Marks. Germain Racing has won two or more races each year for a total of 14 wins. Along with the victories, the team has earned 5 pole awards, 59 top-five and 88 top-ten finishes and led 1402 laps in 178 Truck Series races.
