Marks Has Strong Start, Shortened Run at California
02/23/2008 — Fontana, Ca. (02-23-2008) Justin Marks, Rocklin, Ca., hoped for another top notch weekend like he and the #9 Germain Racing crew, led by Jason Overstreet, had at Daytona. There Marks finished 8th, earning top rookie honors in qualifying and in the race. At California Speedway, a track where many of Marks friends and family could see him race, the young driver started the race seventh but ran into early trouble on track. The #9 Crocs Tundra suffered considerable damage from an incident at lap six. Solid teamwork prevailed and Marks was able to return to race track to complete 50 more laps and finish 33rd. "It was a disappointing day for the Crocs Toyota Tundra. We just started the race really loose and I was kind of hanging on. Everybody was racing really hard and I was just trying to keep the truck down on the bottom and survive to the point when things settled down a bit,” said Justin Marks, who found himself the cause of the race’s first caution at lap six. Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender, Marks, said the truck’s loose condition combined with the turbulent air of tight, racing traffic, sent the #9 Crocs Tundra sailing off course. “We were loose and all the air around the truck just got us sideways off turn two. I couldn't keep it off the wall,” said Marks. What turned out to be the highlight of the race for Marks was the teamwork by Germain Racing’s #9 crew that put a damaged truck back together and on-track with solid lap times. “Everyone did a fantastic job getting the truck back together and back out on the racetrack. To run the lap times we did, considering the damage, was a real testament to the job the guys on the #9 Crocs Tundra do, week-in, week-out,” said Marks. Atlanta Motor Speedway is next on the horizon for Marks and the #9 crew. The Construct Corps Tundra will take to the track on Friday, March 7th, for a one-day show including two practice sessions, qualifying and racing action starting at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.
